Deer on the Hill
Mike June 3rd, 2008
One side of our property is bordered by a dirt road that goes a short distance up the hill behind our house. Last week while I was mowing the lawn, in the corner of my eye I spotted a doe standing in the middle of the road. It only serves a few homes so there is very little traffic to scare deer away. Although I am surprised the mower didn’t scare her. I watched her for a few minutes, and that’s when I noticed that she wasn’t alone. She had a baby with her. It couldn’t have been more than a week or two old because it was about the same size as our dogs. I’m guessing about 10-15 pounds.
I took a brisk walk to the house to grab the camera, but by the time I got back they were gone. Up the hill I went searching for the deer. I went as far as I thought was reasonable but I figured they were gone. Then I saw her. The mother deer was just off the roadside watching me from the woods.
I got a few shots of the mother and then she took off into the woods behind our house. I was later told by a neighbor that they like to feed on an apple tree that’s right near where they were. So I’ll keep my eyes open for them again. I still need to get a good set of binoculars and a camera with a real zoom lens. Something like one of these:

Hey Mike, Fam & Crew!
Hello from sunny Philadelphia. And no not like the t.v. show but from the warm cozy livingroom I’m sitting in!
Go with the Nikon! That’s got my vote!
Izzy passed out chanting “Baseball.. Baseball.. Baseball” Because, the Phillies won the World Series. Now, though I’m not a HUGE fan of Baseball her father kinda is. Granted if the The New York Giant’s had made it to the world series my tone might have had a different ring. Call me biased, I’m a New Yorker at heart.
But yes, go with the Nikon SLR. Not that I had one, but hey if you had one maybe I could borrow it (just kidding, not)
Thought I’d stop by and send Izzy & my warm regards to the crew. meep. End of transmission… .. .
Now which Nikon. I’ll have to get back to you on that one! heh
